Matchbook is one of the industry’s leading betting exchange. Matchbook has been in operation since 2004 but has recently started to increase market share rapidly. Check out our full Matchbook review below.
The old company that was US based was acquired in February of 2011 by UK investors. Upon the acquisition, Matchbook immediately withdrew from the US market.
The legislation and legal restrictions of the US market meant that the path of least resistance was to rellocate to the more open UK market.
Matchbook’s new ownership paid all US players their balances and began focusing its resources on expanding their international slate and better-serving punters abroad.
Matchbook offers multiple currencies to their customers, and has a multi-lingual platform in the works. Matchbook has continually enhanced the popular user interface that allows for seamless market offers.
Matchbook doesn’t offer as much liquidity as exchanges such as Betfair or the range of market offers that the likes of Sportsbet and Ladbrokes do.
What they do excel in though is with their super low margins and industry low commissions on all of the popular betting markets across major soccer leagues, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Cricket Golf and AFL.
Matchbook operates on a commission based method where users are charged a small percentage of each bet played. If a customer posts an offer and another user matches it, 0.5% commission is charged, calculated on volume.
If an offer is accepted, the user accepting is charged 1.0% commission, calculated on volume. The commission rates are applied to the win amount on successful wagers. For losing bets, it is applied to the lesser of the stake or potential win amount. This structure is different to fellow betting exchange Betfair.
The low commission rate essentially puts Matchbook in a similar bracket to a sportsbook like Pinnacle. The only difference is that Matchbook is peer-to-peer transactions instead of over the counter to a bookie like the Pinnacle model reflects.
Matchbook has a solid mobile platform which is compatible with all of the latest smart phones, as well as a dedicated staff available for inquiries via email, live help, and telephone.
Since the re-positioning back into the UK market Matchbook has become a steady growing force in the betting exchange world.
The sports betting landscape is constantly evolving and the betting exchange market figures to grow bigger and better as sports punters who are being restricted by the big corporates look for different avenues to get set for a decent bet.
Punting Stars highly recommends Matchbook as an alternative to Pinnacle and Betfair for premium players.
