In a decision that will have the punters cheering, QLD racing looks set to introduce a minimum bet law similar to that of Victoria and NSW.
QLD Racing Minister Grace Grace accepted Racing Queensland’s recommendations in principle after a thorough period of industry consultation.
“It will bring Queensland into line with the major southern racing jurisdictions in a further sign of the stronger commercial focus we’re bringing to the local racing industry,” Grace told The Courier-Mail.
The laws will require all licensed operators to bet their customers to win $2K minimum in metro racing ($1k place) and $1K non-metro ($400 place) after 9am on a given race day.

The proposed MBL into Queensland racing was originally thrown out in January but with the new Queensland Official Price (QOP) now in action and replacing the old APN fluctuations it was deemed the right time to make the corporates accountable for the prices they are putting up.
In relation to commentary on minimum bets, as previously stated RQ does not have the power to introduce MBL under legislative framework

“The recommendation follows a period of consultation that was conducted as part of a wider review of race information fees and ongoing monitoring of frameworks in place interstate,” RQ chief executive Eliot Forbes told The Courier-Mail.
Do you think this is a good thing for QLD racing?
Should all corporates be required to bet the same amount or should the larger firms be required to bet more than the smaller guys?
