If you haven’t noticed yet, there is a new Australian Sports Bookie in the market. PointsBet has arrived and they have a unique betting proposition to offer clients.
As the product is still very new and we’ve only had brief encounters with the product we’ve taken some of the following information from the PointsBet website regarding the product offering.
PointsBet are a ‘spread betting’ bookie meaning that you as the punter are competing to defeat their lines.
The main twist is that the more your bet wins (or loses) the better return (or loss) you will receive or incur.
With Spread betting the amount you win/lose from a bet is not fixed from the start, but variable depending on how much your bet wins by.
PointsBet offer spread betting on 24 sports including the major sports such as AFL, NRL, NBA, NFL.
Every member will be assigned a personal account manager.
Your personal account manager will be in touch with you within 48 hours of opening an account to run you through your official induction, market types, promotions available to you and any other queries you may have.
They will be your key point of contact throughout your PointsBet experience offering personalized service, one-on-one communication and someone to chat to about PointsBet and Spread Betting.
PointsBet pride ourselves on being the leaders in NBA betting, offering a unique set of markets that aren’t available anywhere else. These include:
- Player Shooting Percentages (Field Goal %, Free Throw %, 3Pt %, etc.)
- Time of first basket by player
- Player points multiples (e.g Q1 pts multiplied by Q2 points),
- Time in minutes played for players to pass 5pts/10pts/15pts etc
As there are no odds associated with the spreads PointsBet make a margin in the middle of the spread they offer.
In the image above you can see that the featured market is Carlton +13 and Richmond -16 meaning if the game line falls on 14 or 15 points, then PointsBet will win.
They also win when your selected bet doesn’t cover the spread and obviously win more when your bet loses by a big margin.
This is an interesting concept we are keen to follow the progress of.
We do worry that smart punters will pick off the lines and be restricted very quickly, it remains to be seen how accurate their lines are and how willing they are to take a decent bet.
One thing for sure is that it’s great to see new betting products on offer to Aussie clients.
Feel free to share your experiences with spread betting with us on Twitter.
Good punting!
