The good horses are slowly filtering back into the fold and tomorrow across Australia is no different with meetings at both Flemington and Rosehill Gardens.
The Flemington card is a belter with the rail out past the 10m position which is pretty rare for Melbourne metro racing.
Our best bets for the card are below, good luck if you’re having a punt!
Flemington Best Bets 27th September
Race 2 #6 Black Sail & #9 Conquest @ $11 & $10.00
Happy to have two small bets in this 1400m race. Both horses map to get into up and off positions and both horses have two of the top Melbourne riders engaged. Black Sail will benefit from his second run at 1400m (third-up for prep) after being rolled as a $2.20 SP favorite last start while Conquest comes out of a much stronger race (won by the Guineas favorite) and he had excuses that day.
Race 3 #6 Groovin @ $8.50
In a race with not many runners to get excited about I like the fact this mare has some scope for further improvement. I think she now has a better grounding to tackle 1800m and maps to settle in a forward position from the wide gate with not much tempo on paper.
Race 5 #3 Honourable Tycoon @ $13
The Tycoon has been around the traps forever and a day and will likely be back at least two pairs on the fence for young Ethan Brown. Back on top of the ground he was able to score last start and after the claim goes around with 59 kilos. He looks big odds for a pretty consistent performer who should get a nice run as I’ve mapped a few key chances getting stuck out wide.
Race 8 #11 I’m Tellin Ya @ $8.00
He has a good SP profile for a race like this, is in sound form and ran well here down the straight in a $100,000 race behind Hay Bale in July. He maps wide and down the straight should get first track at the outside fast lane if it is indeed playing that way and at $8 he is a worthwhile gamble.
Rosehill Best Bets 27th September
Rosehill R5 #3 POMELO
Pomelo returns over the Rosehill 1100m following a strong Autumn prep, which culminated in a Provincial Championship fourth. She didn’t quite see out the high pressure 1400m that day but was a three-time winner at shorter trips earlier in the prep. She draws to cross, lead and give them all something to chase under apprentice Brock Ryan.
Rosehill R6 #1 MY TRUE LOVE
Another first-upper is the Waterhouse/Bott runner My True Love. She was a city winner and placed at Group 2 & 3 level in Brisbane, so is well suited back to midweek grade. She’s also trialled nicely behind recent winners Ravi and Lead Choreographer and maps to lead them a long way from the wide gate. (Note: Best Tote is the suggested betting product).
