Australia’s richest ever race will be contested this Saturday at Royal Randwick with the inaugural running of The Everest highlighting a cracking betting card.
After a very dry month in Sydney, a little bit of rain has taken the edge off the surface which remains rated a Good 4. The rail is out six metres but it must be said, the biases and lanes of old are largely irrelevant nowadays and we’re expecting a fair surface.
Here are our best bets on the card.
Royal Randwick ‘The Everest Day’ Tips – 14th October
Race 3#8 Faith in Hand @ $12.00/$3.60
We’re showing plenty of respect for Chris Waller’s decision to revert this filly from Melbourne to Sydney and run her second up at 1400m after a strong 1000m run on stable debut. She hit the line hard for third down the Flemington straight and from the wide gate here should find herself in a position to balance up and work through her gears down the long Randwick straight. Looks a good opportunity to play 1×3.

Race 4#8 Pumpkin Pie @ $4.20
A full field of 14 country horses (plus four emergencies) fighting it out for $200K. Okay. Certainly a pretty big carrot for the country trainers and Danny Williams is the one who has orchestrated a brilliant preparation for his charge, Pumpkin Pie. She’s been running well at metro level and now, fourth up on Grand Final day, steps up to her best distance. All that said, her 3.8L run off In Her Time in a G2 Premiere choc full of Everest form is enough alone to put her on top.
Race 7#12 In Her Time @ $2.60
The best bet of the day. In Her Time was desperately unlucky to miss a slot in The Everest after beating home the likes of English, Clearly Innocent and Chautauqua last time out. She was prepared with run against the A-listers for $10 million second up today in mind, instead she takes on the B team over the same trip. The middle draw allows Corey Brown to give her a comfortable passage in transit behind an above average tempo and she should simply be doing the best work where it counts.
Horse Racing Opinion: When is the best time to bet?
Race 8#1 Chautauqua @ $7.00 & #2 Vega Magic @ $5.00
In an absolute crack field of sprinters, all of whom have been prepared solely for the richest race ever run in Australia, we’re simply backing the top two. Why? Firstly, because both present as an overlay. Chautauqua has a love affair with the Randwick 1200m, possesses comfortably the highest rating in the field and is ready to explode third up. Vega Magic is the runner with the strong 1400m form behind him, crucial in a high pressure 1200m race, and is the complete racehorse. Secondly, statistics show that favoured runners have a much greater strike rate in Group 1 WFA events compared to the average of all races. The cream will rise to the top once again in The Everest.
