The second major on the PGA calendar has arrived and it’s set to be a beauty at Erin Hills. Check out our US Open Golf 2017 Betting Preview and tips below!
US Open’s are known for thick rough, unforgiving greens and breathtaking scenery – this year looks like it will be no different!
Erin Hills will no doubt prove to be a very challenging layout for golfers and it is a course where not many of the world’s top golfers have had much experience playing before.
Dustin Johnson is the defending US Open champion after dominating at Oakmont last year.
“I know nothing about it,” said Johnson.
Unlike Johnson and the vast majority of the field, Jordan Spieth at least has some recent playing experience of the course – from the US Amateur Championship.
The video below shows some highlights from that Championship.
While there are basically no trees on the course the early indication from players is that they like the track a lot more than they did Chambers Bay a few years ago.
Stiff Wisconsin breeze, 600-yard holes and rough that will make finding your ball, let alone playing it very challenging.
Course designer Michael John Hurdzan had this to say about the bunkering at Erin Hills.
“Nobody is going to be able to play the bunkers very well,” says Hurdzan.
“If you hit it in the bunker you are going to pay a big penalty, so a lot of it is, choose your shots and play good course management.”
So we’re looking for guys that can bomb it, play smart out of the bunkers and putt well? Too easy!
The scene is set for another brutal US Open.

The Stats that have mattered
Here are the average rankings for the last ten US Open winners with thanks to Betfair;
Driving Accuracy – 22.5
Driving Distance – 19.8
G.I.R – 10.3
Scrambling – 6.6
Putting Average – 12.7
Accuracy off the tee has been least important while scrambling, putting and greens in reg are most important.
We are expecting a similar story this year. Of course, some of those stats do correlate.
The Main US Open Contenders
Jordan Spieth game certainly should suit, he’s had experience at the course and most importantly he is in solid form despite missing two of his last five cuts.
Rory McIlroy must be a risk in terms of the outright markets, he can’t stay healthy and is priced to a premium.
Jason Day has had a few tournaments to settle back into a groove after the news of his mother’s cancer scare. He can scramble and putt with the best of them and is arguably the best bunker player on the planet. Ticks boxes?
Dustin Johnson just isn’t going as well as he was when he broke through at Oakmont this time last year. He seems under the odds although plenty will be keen to have his length on their side this week.

The US Open Betting Market
Dustin is clear favorite and he is closely followed by the other three members of the ‘Big four’.
After that, the usual suspects sit in the next line of betting.
Fowler, Garcia, Rose, Matsuyama, Stenson, Scott are all below 30-1 and so is the young gun on the block, Jon Rahm.
