Best Bets
Race 8 #1 Tashbeeh @ $9
Ultra consistent horse for the Hayes camp who won very well in a strong race first-up. He’s been kept fresh for this assignment and looks to have come up big odds. Ability is flying since being gelded and deserves to be favourite but outside of him there is a lot of market percentage being taken up by average horses here.
The inside draw will be a concern for some punters and we are keen to see the track before we absolutely declare this bloke an each-way moral. However, in a small forward he should be able to press forward and get up and off the hard inside and on our ratings he’s a $6 chance and sure to run well again.
Race 9 #1 Urban Ruler @ $4.40
It’s hard to believe the green machine opened $6.50 about this bloke who looks incredibly well in here who are drawn to find the coveted three wide line in running. There is a stack of speed (go forward) horses drawn wide so the runners drawn inside will have to hunt up to hold a spot or risk being buried away on the fence back in the field.
Urban Ruler looks set to peak here with the ideal set-up at his disposal with the prior run at 1600m. We expect he will settle a little closer to the speed this time and looks mighty hard to beat.
Five Horse Racing Punting Myths
Best Roughies
Race 4 #3 Madame Moustache @ $21
Terrific roughie here betting around the boom horse Royal Symphony that has gone up $1.40 and looks awfully hard to beat. However, Chris Waller has his Melbourne troops firing on all cylinders and he has a happy knack of getting his charges to peak on ‘grand final’ days.
Sydney form has a knack of shining through down in Melbourne, particularly in juvenile races and Madame Moustache should enjoy getting back on top of the ground and we are predicting a forward ride from Craig Newitt. You could do worse than snip some of the $4.20 the place floating around currently.
Race 6 #3 Ancient King @ $23
Weir horse in a staying race in a ‘peak day’ that goes up $23? Please! Like the fact he has drawn inside so he can press forward into a prominent position and go to sleep in behind the speed. Tempo looks to be moderate at least which should find a few of these wanting at the end of 2600m.
This bloke coming off a hurdle and a 3200m will be strong late for sure and simply looks the wrong price. Brad going on is a big plus and the $5.50 the place that is on offer is an absolute steal!
Looking forward to a big week of racing next week starting with Finals Day at Flemington on Saturday & the big Grafton carnival kicking off!
